Bush Listens to Who?

Posted on January 10, 2007 by JP Smith

Bush Not Listening“General Casey will make the decisions as to how many troops we have there…He’ll decide how best to achieve victory and the troop levels necessary to do so. I’ve spent a lot of time talking to him about troop levels. And I’ve told him this: I said, ‘You decide, General.’ “

-President George W. Bush, July 2006

For a long time, now, President Bush has used the excuse that he was taking his lead from the Generals on the ground in Iraq. Now that these same generals have said “no” to more troops and that, in essence, the strategy has failed in Iraq, did Bush heed them?

No.

Instead, he moves them out of the way and appoints people who will co-sign his foolishness.

So, it’s no surprise to read in the Washington post, today, that Bush is now taking the reins away from the generals in his quixotic quest to “win” in Iraq. Well, let’s be honest. This is not about winning for him as much as it’s about riding it out until 2009 when he can dump this mess in the next President’s lap.

If it’s not, why is he going against his generals, the will of the American people (and most of the world) and the Iraqi government? Yes, even the Iraqi government is against this so-called “help” Bush is proposing. So, Mr. President, just who are you listening to? Halliburton, Bechtel, the Saudi Government — who?

In the end, two things are certain — death and taxes…correction…death and tax cuts for the rich.

So, put on your seat belts. Barring impeachment, it’s going to be an even more bumpy ride for the next two years.
