More Republicans On Board With Dumping Gonzalez

Posted on March 16, 2007 by JP Smith

Alberto GonzalezIt appears that the controversy around the firing of 8 federal prosecutors has more legs that many Rebublican talking heads want to admit.

In addition to several Democrats calling for his ouster, there was one Republican Senator, John Sununu, who also said Attorney General Alberto Gonzales should be dismissed. Now, more members of his party are adding their voices to this chorus.

Senator Gordon Smith (R-Oregon) and Representative Dana Rorbacher (R-California) have also indicated that it’s time to replace Gonzalez. Smith indicated that “it would be helpful to have an attorney general that Congress could have more confidence in.” Rorbacher stated, “Even for Republicans this is a warning sign … saying there needs to be a change. Maybe the president should have an attorney general who is less a personal friend and more professional in his approach.”

I would suspect that Gonzalez will be “resigning” (fired) in the next few weeks.
