Demographic ChangesThe days of neo-con rule have all but ended. More and more Americans are realizing that putting people who hate government in charge of government yields disastrous results. So, more people are finding themselves more closely aligned with the Democratic view (of course, sometimes, I don’t know how good that really is either when the party lacks a collective spine). Nonetheless, it clear that Republicans are going to have to steal a lot of elections to get back to a majority in Congress or have a shot at the White House.

The Pew Research Center has released a report on the political trends of the last 20 years and it shows that America is trending more and more towards values that put the common person first. What this means is that the individualized “me-me-me” perspectives of the Republican party are taking a hit.

For example, since 1994, there has been a steady increase in the percentage of people who believe the government should care for those who can’t care for themselves and an increase in people who believe we should do so even if it means more debt for America.

However, another suprising number has come out that will turn the Republican anti-affirmative action position on its ear. A full 70% of those surveyed support affirmative action. Even more surprising is that the increase occurred along all political lines. Since 1995, 8% more Republicans favor affirmative action. 10% more Democrats and 14% more independents did, as well.

So, maybe the Democrats can actually catch up to the will of the people who support them and realize that it’s time the seize upon this opportunity and begin really working for the betterment of all Americans.
