Golf is not exactly known for its diversity (although I see that changing). So, maybe it’s just a knee-jerk reaction on my part but, the recent words of Golf Channel anchor Kelly Tilghman (followed, subsequently, by an apology) really ticked me off. Tilghman, supposedly, was trying to express how dominant a player Tiger Woods is and suggested that young players should “lynch Tiger Woods in a back alley” in order to compete with him.
Now, considering the history of lynching in this country (the OVERWHELMING majority of which targeted black people), this is not something that is exactly the stuff of jest.
But, who knows, maybe it’s just me…

You dummys Tiger is also half asian not just black. Relax
It’s just you, it was a joke and you, like the media, have taken it completely out of context.
Get over yourself, you Rev. Al wannabe. You don’t have the right to use things that happened well before your time as some sort of “ammo” against all those who don’t happen to be black.
Stop seeing colors, and start seeing humans. Have you ever said anything that might be MISCONSTRUED as racist? Yeah, I bet you have. Sleep good tonight, knowing you “fought the good fight” - sheeesh - people like you are what is wrong with our country - everyone’s got a vendetta, the world owes you something because of something that happened 5 generations BEFORE YOU WERE EVER EVEN THOUGHT OF.
Give it a rest.
@bill
Actually, according to Tiger, he is Black, Asian and Caucasian. That still doesn’t excuse such a comment
@jack
You obviously are one of those that see the world as “okay” because it works for you (even if it doesn’t work for other people). I’m sorry that I can’t be that self-centered. Also, let’s see…the last lynching that I am aware of occurred in 1998 (James Byrd Jr.) so, that’s a little less than 5 generations, dont’cha think? It would serve you well to actually read about a subject before chastising others regarding said subject.
But, let’s say Tiger was a Jewish person and the commentator said that those guys could have taken him to a back alley and set him on fire or gassed him, do you think that this would be brushed aside? I think not, nor should it be.
Like I stated (again, reading is fundamental), she did say it in jest. Still, that doesn’t make it appropriate.
