Okay, it’s a fight!

I guess I was right about how the “Keating 5″ would be brought into the campaign.  This afternoon, the Obama campaign released a 13-minute “documentary” about McCain’s role in the Keating 5 scandal.  Charles Keating was the head of a failed bank, Lincoln Savings and Loan.  McCain was one of five senators accused of using their influence to have federal regulators look the other way on behalf of Keating.  Though McCain was cleared of corruption charges, the Senate ethics committee stated that he exercised “poor judgement” in this matter.

McCain had known Keating for nearly a decade at this point. In fact, Keating held fundraisers for McCain’s House campaigns in 1982 and 1983.  Keating and his associates had donated about $112,000 to McCain’s political campaigns between 1982-1987.

This issue ties in with the narrative the Obama campaign is trying to create about McCain.  They call him “erratic”, accuse him of lacking good judgement and point to his disdain for regulation that don’t benefit corporate fatcats.
