Newspaper editor killed in suspected contract killing

Posted on August 02, 2007 by JP Smith

Contract KillingChauncey Bailey, editor of the Oakland Post, was gunned down yesterday, just a short distance from his office.

Bailey, was a former reporter for the Oakland Tribune and was recently promoted to editor of the Post, Northern California’s largest black newspaper.

It is not believed that Bailey was working on any investigations that would have resulted in his death but, based on witness statements and the actions of the killer, it is believed that this was a contract killing.

Sadly, we have another brother gunned down. But, the fact that it appears to be a killing for hire leaves me wondering if he came across some information that ended up costing him his life.
